Every year, many people decide to travel for some reason. Some take time off to get refreshed, some look for new experiences while others travel to spend their days as leisurely pensioners.  Some of them prefer traveling on low budget, like international students.  This is not difficult as there are many countries which have low living cost. You are free to have short trips or even live in these countries without worrying too much about your budget.

There are also several countries which are popular destinations and frequently visited by tourists.  From fascinating places, scenic views, to charming cultures – all have their own attractiveness.  For those in need of recommendation, here are 5 countries with the cheapest living cost in the world.

Malaysia

Malaysia is one of Asian countries that many tourists around the globe chose to visit.  This country has many beautiful touristic places. Malaysia has beautiful islands and sandy beaches, a bustling capital and mouth-watering delicacies. It also has zoos where animals that are not found in other parts of the world can be found.  For the culture and culinary enthusiast, this is the place to visit.

As for the currency, Malaysian Ringgit to Rupiah is quite high.  However, for the living cost is quite the same with Indonesia.  In Malaysia, you can find food in cheap price, like roti canai dan nasi biryani.  The 3-star hotel also nearly the same with Indonesia which cost Rp 300 thousand to Rp 500 thousand / night.

If you concern about spending the money, you may travel using public transportation.  Kuala Lumpur has an integrated transportation –  where you can get in LRT to various destination only for RM 1 for single trip.  If you stay in homestay with kitchen facility, you may cook by yourself by buying local product with cheaper price 55,2% than Indonesia

Spain

Spain is one of the European countries with the lowest college fee and living cost.  It is easier to travel with a limited budget, especially for considering the down payment.  Not only famous for the beaches, Spain is also known for the uniqueness of its architecture.  You can visit many places like museums, churches, and other historical buildings in Spain.

In this country, you will notice a big difference if you compare it with other European countries.  You may get far cheaper prices when shopping in Spain supermarkets.  If you want to dine in a restaurant, you may pay around 15 to 20 euros.  However, if you want to eat at a local restaurant with far lower cost, you only have to pay 6 to 8 euros for a complete meal.

In order to reduce cost, try to use public transportation when travelling.  A single trip will be cost 1 to 1.50 euro and it is very accessible. As for accommodation, a dorm hostel costs 15 euros and a private hostel will cost 30 euros for a night.

Germany

Germany is a quite cheap to visit.  Berlin, the capital city, is one of the cheapest cities in Europe.  You can sleep well without worrying about the cost per night by living in a hostel.  Mostly the hostels offer single or double room for around 30 to 90 euros per night.  Moreover, it also includes a private bathroom.

For dining, you can try out affordable and delicious food at their local restaurants – imbiss.  Some food like bratwurst or currywust served with French fries are only less than 5 euros.  If you want to try something different, you may try falafel or doner kebab for only less than 3 euros.

If you are an international student and have a student ID, you can get discounts when enjoying beautiful views, watching performances, visiting museums, theatres, waterparks, and also when booking hostels.  One more thing to note is that Germany has many landmarks and free touristic spot like museums and other historical places.

Cuba

Cuba is located in north Caribbean, an island surrounded by the Caribbean Sea, Mexico Gulf and the Atlantic.  This country is famous among tourists and has unique history, culture and music, as well as medieval castles.  This uniqueness is what makes it famous among foreigners.

To stay here, you may choose the popular accommodation option which is called casas particulars. Casas are like local guesthouses.  The price is varied based on the area.  The double room is around $25 to $40, including breakfast.

Cuba is a accessible because of its low living cost.  You can buy delicious, cheap food in restaurants for around $5 and buy monthly tickets for transportation around Havana for only $1.  As for buses, tickets are cheap, but they sell out quite quickly. So, it is necessary to buy online or at least 1-2 days before.

China

As one of the biggest civilizations and the oldest in the world. China is famous for its beautiful places.  It has many iconic landmarks, including the Great Wall, Terracotta Army in Xi’an, Mt Huang in Anhui and many more.

For accommodation, the hotels cost around 75CNY per night as their basic rate.  Budget hotels usually include heater or AC, private bathroom, kettle and TV (even though you will only have Mandarin channels).  Besides that, any hotel which offers free breakfast might serve Chinese breakfast like cake, porridge and vegetables.

Luckily, food sold in this country is far cheaper, even in superior restaurants and affordable hotels.  The food sold at stalls is usually around 7-14 CNY.  In addition, the transportation is cheap and accessible. Traveling by bus is one of the most economic options to travel around.
