Truth or Influence? Should Social Media Stars Play by Strict Rule
Social media influencers shape opinions, trends, and even buying behaviour on a massive scale. But with great influence comes great responsibility. Should content creators be held to stricter rules when promoting products, sharing opinions, or shaping public discourse?
This competition invites you to critically examine the tension between authenticity and advertising. Should influencers be legally required to disclose paid partnerships clearly? How much due diligence should they perform before endorsing a product or claim? What happens when their influence misleads, intentionally or not?
Through this topic, participants will analyse influencer obligations, explore global disclosure standards, and debate whether stricter regulations can protect the public — or if they risk stifling creativity and free expression.
